A COVENTRY rugby club has began to create new netball courts for all sports enthusiasts.

Ground works have begun at Earlsdon Rugby Club – building two floodlit netball courts at the site on Mitchell Avenue and will be ready to open in June.

The project is funded by a £92,149 grant from FCC Communications Foundation and a £75,000 grant from HS2’s Community Environment Fund and a Crowdfunder campaign with match funding from the Sport England ‘Places and Spaces’ scheme.

Martin Rourke, treasurer of Earlsdon Rugby Club said: “This is an exciting project for Earlsdon Rugby Club, as we welcome Earlsdon Highway Netball Club into the fold.

“The development of the new courts will ensure that our netball section have a permanent base here at Earlsdon RFC.

“A lot of work has gone on behind the scenes to get to this stage and we’re all glad to see ‘spades in the ground’ and can now make preparations for our future together.”
