Coventry man jailed for four years for vicious glass attack

Coventry Editorial 5th Dec, 2021   0

A COVENTRY man has been jailed for four years after carrying out a vicious glass attack which left another man with horrific facial injuries.

Kevin Cairns was handed the term after the incident which started with a row over a suspected stolen bank card.

Cairns was having a late night drink in the multi-occupancy house he shared with the victim. The other man went out to buy more alcohol, but mistakenly picked up Cairns’ bank card from the table, believing it to be his own.

He returned when he realised his mistake, but Cairns accused him of stealing it and attacked him with a glass.

The injuries sustained left the victim scarred physically, emotionally and mentally.

Cairns, aged 38, of Bryn Road, alleged he threw the glass from a distance not intending to cause injury, but he was found guilty of assault by a jury at Warwick Crown Court.

He was sentenced to four years in prison with an extended three year licence period for wounding.
