Coventry Festival of Running - due to take place in March - is postponed due to ongoing pandemic

THE COVENTRY Festival of Running (FoR), which was scheduled for March 21, has been postponed after the organisers felt the Covid-19 restrictions would not be eased sufficiently enough for the event to take place.

The FoR team said the Government’s next review in mid-February would be too soon, given the number of Coronavirus cases.

In a letter to the Observer they said: “We are working hard with stakeholders to identify a suitable date later in the year which gives the event every chance of finally taking place.

“We are encouraged by the rollout of the vaccination programme and the early signs of a downturn in the number of new cases.

“We also remain confident in our plans for a Covid-secure event given the experience we have gained operating Coventry University’s asymptomatic testing centre. ”

A new date would be announced by the beginning of March.

FoR has always promised participants their registration fee is safe and back in October after the previous postponement, the organisers offered them the following –

· RUN – Transfer their entry to the rescheduled date or undertake a Virtual Run

· DONATE – Donate their entry fee to our official Partner Charities

· REFUND – Claim a refund

They will be offering the same options for all currently registered participants with further details being sent to all participants via e-mail by the beginning of March.

The team added: “In November we were delighted that our Virtual Run fundraisers and donation of entry fees raised more than £20,000 for local charities – funds that were desperately needed in such a challenging year.

“We hope many of you will take up these options once again as well as join us at the physical event later this year when we will finally be able to run in celebration.”

They thanked everyone for their continued support and urged them to ‘take care, keep safe and stay positive’.
