UPDATE: Coventry man arrested on suspicion of Syria terror offences bailed

ONE of the two Coventry men arrested on suspicion of Syria-related terrorism offences yesterday morning (August 9) has been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

The 25-year-old was detained by officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit at a city property.

A 35-year-old man, who was arrested at a separate address, remains in police custody.

Officers continue to search the men’s addresses today.




The arrests were part of a continuing investigation and were intelligence led.

Officers say there was no immediate threat to public safety.


The arrests come just days after two other men, aged 38 and 40, were were detained under section 15 of the Terrorism Act 2000 on suspicion of financing terrorism.

They have since been bailed, pending further enquiries.
