STUDENTS from Coventry College will be attending the Sky Blues’ home game against Stoke City this Saturday as special guests after completing the National Citizen Service programme, writes Shnae Harrison.

The 44 college students attending the game, who study Level 2 Sport and Level 2 Public Services courses, completed a two-week programme with the team at Sky Blue Community which included a range of activities.

Each student will be awarded a certificate signed by the Prime Minister for their work which is recognised by employers, colleges and universities and can also be added onto their CVs.

Kelly Ward, Curriculum Manager for Sport and Uniformed Public Services at Coventry College, said: “All of our students across both courses were extremely enthusiastic about taking part in this project, and delivered some excellent results.”

The first week of the programme tested the student’s physical ability and their teamwork through a range of activities which also included first aid and a public-speaking masterclass to improve their confidence.

The second week involved a 30-hour planned and delivered social action project where students helped raise money for different charities including Cancer Research, UNICEF Vaccine Appeal, Children in Need and the RSPCA.

Sam Flatley, Sky Blues in the Community’s National Citizen Service/Education Manager, said: “The NCS programme has given the young people a fantastic experience, with lots of learning and challenges met and developed over the programme duration.”
