COVENTRY Cathedral says tomorrow’s tribute service for Cyrille Regis is still on although today’s Sky Blues match on Legends Day has been called off.
The cathedral told us: “Coventry City’s home game this afternoon against Lincoln City has been called off – but, with high hopes of the weather improving over the next couple of days, tomorrow’s service at the Cathedral is currently scheduled to go ahead.
“Not everyone who has a ticket is likely to be able to use it – so we anticipate that there will be sufficient seating for anyone who would like to come.”
A Ricoh Arena statement today reads: “Coventry City’s home game with Lincoln City due to be played at the Ricoh Arena today has been postponed due to the adverse weather conditions.
“While the Ricoh Arena pitch is playable, there were safety concerns for supporters with more snow forecast for later today.”
A spokesman for the Ricoh Arena said: “The decision was taken after consulting with the safety team, venue management, CCFC and the police. There were concerns about the surrounding road conditions and access for supporters.
“We will keep monitoring conditions throughout the day before making a decision on tomorrow’s Wasps game with London Irish and will keep supporters informed.”
Coventry City FC’s website this morning read;
“Coventry City’s home game against Lincoln City has been called off.
“Following snow overnight, teams of volunteers and staff from Coventry and the Ricoh Arena worked to try to ensure that areas surrounding the Ricoh Arena were clear of snow. The pitch was in good condition, however snow had drifted into the South Stand which made it dangerous along with areas of the East Stand too.
“Combined with the distance that Lincoln City fans were set to travel to the game, the decision was made to call the game off at 9:50am.
“There will be information regarding the re-arranged fixture once it is confirmed.
“We’d like to place on record our thanks to all staff, volunteers and authorities that made great efforts in the past 48 hours to combat the weather.”
