Council offers grants of up to £3k for Coventry businesses hit by lockdown 2 restrictions

COVENTRY City Council has announced £4.4 million of support for hospitality, leisure and non-essential retail businesses forced to close in England’s four-week lockdown.

Companies, which have temporarily shut down or whose activity is limited, can apply for grants of between £1,334 and £3,000, depending on the rateable value of the business property.

Restaurants which usually operate a seated service but are now limited to takeaways only are also eligible to claim a grant.

And businesses without premises liable for business rates but have been impacted by the national restrictions, may be able to access the Council’s Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG). Details will be announced shortly.

Coun Jim O’Boyle, cabinet member for jobs and regeneration, said: “It’s important that we do everything we can to help businesses who are struggling financially through no fault of their own.

“We want to ensure all eligible businesses complete the application process and receive the support they so desperately need. We have staff ready and waiting to work out what help is available so please check out the details on the Council’s website.

“During the last lockdown period, officers in the Council’s business rates and business development teams did a fantastic job in processing thousands of applications, so they already have the skills and expertise to continue to do so in the coming weeks.

“We want to make sure that all eligible businesses have every opportunity to contact us. We must get this absolutely right.”
