COOMBE Abbey hotel has struck gold after scooping a trio of prestigious national accolades at the annual M&IT Awards.
Celebrating talent within the events industry, the Brinklow-based 12th century venues picked up two Gold awards and one Silver in a glittering ceremony held at Battersea Evolution in London.
The hotel secured first prize in the Best UK Unusual Venue category – beating the likes of Alton Towers Resort and Brighton Dome for the top prize – and won the Best Value for Money Conference Venue section too.
There was also success in the Best Conferencing and Banqueting Staff category where Coombe Abbey was awarded second place.
Although they did not place in the category, the independently-owned venue was also shortlisted in the illustrious Best UK Hotel section – going head-to-head with iconic hotels including The Belfry and Celtic Manor Hotel.
Ron Terry, general manager of Coombe Abbey, said it was a phenomenal achievement for the hotel to compete against the major players within the meeting and incentive travel industry.
He added: “To have been merely shortlisted for the awards was a major achievement.
“But to have walked away with two Golds and one Silver is more than anyone at the hotel could have ever wished for.
“These awards are a testament to the hard work and dedication that all staff put in the whole year round and I would like to say a huge thank you to each one of them.”
Presenter Eamonn Holmes even pointed out the hotel was on a roll as the venue improved on its performance at last year’s awards, where it picked up a Silver and Bronze in the same three categories.
Ron said: “We were so pleased with the Silver and Bronze last year.
“But we always strive for perfection, so we wanted to make sure that we improved this year.”
