A COVENTRY schoolgirl is the brains behind a new healthy eating message which will be seen by thousands of local Tesco shoppers.
Priya Kumari, from Stivichall Primary School, won a competition which encouraged youngsters to design a healthy eating message to go on Tesco bags.
The nine-year-old produced a picture of fruit and vegetables with the slogan ‘We are happy when we are healthy’.
Her prize for winning was a £25 worth of Tesco gift cards and her design has now been printed on over 4,000 hessian bags which will be available at the supermarket’s Cannon Park store.
Stivichall Primary School will also receive a Healthy Eating workshop for the pupils taking part on their last day of term.
“We are extremely proud of Priya and her beautiful design,” said Mrs Karen Ferguson head teacher at Stivichall Primary School.
“It will be wonderful to see her healthy eating message being carried all around Coventry.
“The Year 5 pupils are extremely excited and looking forward to their Junior Chefs’ Academy workshop. Thankyou Tesco for raising awareness and promoting healthy eating.”
To surprise the young winner, a school assembly took place where Leann Sullivan, Tesco experience manager, presented Priya with the gift card and the bag with her design printed on to it.
Stephanie Wiggin, Tesco store manager, added: “We had a lot of entries to choose from and we could see all the children who entered had taken time and effort to create their poster.
“We all agreed Priya’s poster design deserved first prize and we hope the school are looking forward to their healthy eating workshop.”
