A CHARITY concert in Earlsdon featuring quartet Espressivo has raised £1,050 for the #HelpUkraine campaign.

The event – at Earlsdon Methodist Church – was attended by more than 100 people and also featured Stara Gvardiya – The Old Guard who opened the concert with the Ukraine National Anthem. They also later sang some very emotional traditional Ukraine folk songs.

Espressivo’s programme was light and comprised fun songs, opera, operetta, show songs and some modern pieces.

The concert was also attended by Coventry’s new Deputy Lord Mayor, Coun Jaswant Birdi and the Deputy Lady Mayoress Mrs Birdi.

Coun Birdi made a generous donation to the cause.

David Ryan thanked the Observer for promoting the event in advance and said: “The concert was well received and we all received two standing ovations and performed two encores.

“A good night was had by all.”
