Can you help with appeal for tools after devastating shed fire at Coventry's Five Acre Farm?

AN APPEAL has been launched for tools after a shed at Coventry’s Five Acre Farm burnt down.

An investigation is still being carried out into the blaze which happened on Friday night.

The fire was noticed by the university security team who brought it under control.

Bosses praised their quick-actions, adding it was fortunate they were there as there was no-one else on site at the time.

A spokesperson said: “It could easily have been much worse with everything being so dry – we could have lost all the polytunnels, the potting shed, the Heritage seed library polytunnels and more.”

The shed has been lost, there is minor damage to two of the tunnels, some water hoses can no longer be used and there is a battle to save several fruit trees.

The main problem is most of the tools are now unusable.

Anyone who can help with spare tools so the farm can keep on growing until it sorts everything out is urged to get in touch.

The most important items needed are forks, spades, hand tools, hoes and knives to cut veg for harvest but anything donated would be very welcome.

Kneelers, loppers, secateurs, measuring tapes, the child-sized tools were also all lost and any of those items people could contribute would be given a good home.

The spokesperson added: “Basically, if it’s a growing tool we can probably use it at this point.”

Anyone who can help should email Esther at [email protected] or call her on 02476 441613.
