BREAKING: 320 jobs to move from London to Friargate in Coventry

Coventry Editorial 1st Jun, 2017 Updated: 1st Jun, 2017   0

MORE than 300 jobs are coming to Coventry from London in a much needed boost for the Friargate business park, it has been announced today.

An as yet unnamed non-governmental organisation is switching from the capital to take over some of Friargate One, the tower block by the station into which Coventry City Council staff will move later this year.

It is understood contracts have been signed and staff at the organisation and the council were briefed this morning.

It is expected to bring 320 jobs from London, and it is hoped it will kickstart the flagging Friargate scheme for up to 15,000 jobs, after more than a decade of trying.

Arrangements to move council staff from other city centre buildings are being remodelled.

Labour councillor Jim O’Boyle, cabinet member for jobs and regeneration, said: “Friargate wasn’t moving when I took over as people had envisaged.

“I believed it needed fresh eyes to look at it. It needed someone else in apart from the local authority and that’s what we’re now doing.

“We will be in a position soon to make an announcement about further steps. We had every reason to believe we needed to market Friargate better.”
