THE Coventry Festival Band will make their theatre debut in Brassed Off at The Belgrade next week.

They will play the music from the 1995 film which centred on the Grimethorpe Colliery Band’s own struggles against pit closures.

John McArdle, who played Billy Corkhill in soap Brookside, takes on the lead role in the stage adaptation touring the UK to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the miners’ strike.

The Festival Band were formed in 1952 and are based in Cheylesmore.

The critically-acclaimed Brassed Off runs from April 23 to 26. Tickets are priced from £16.25.
