Bookmakers slash Coventry UK City of Culture price prior to market suspension

Coventry Editorial 7th Dec, 2017 Updated: 7th Dec, 2017   0

COVENTRY is favourite to land tonight’s UK City of Culture bid.

The Godiva city was priced 6/5 when bookmaker William Hill closed its win market for the UK City of Culture 2021.

Paisley were next in the book at 4/1 while Sunderland and Stoke-on-Trent shared 9/2.

Wales’ representative Swansea is the outsider of the quintet at 5/1.

And if hopes weren’t high already, Coventry has seen a ‘large proportion of money’ in the market placed on the city to win – forcing traders to gradually cut the price from its first show of 4/1 to its current figure.

Tonight’s announcement follows months of campaigning, highlighting Coventry’s claim to be UK City of Culture.

If successful, Coventry would benefit from recognition and investment to reinvigorate the city and elevate it onto the cultural forefront.
