BBC Radio 1Xtra dedicating tonight's show to celebrating Coventry artists

Coventry Editorial 19th Apr, 2022   0

BBC Radio 1Xtra’s DJ Target will be dedicating his entire show to celebrating local talent in Coventry between 7-9pm tonight.

The show will also be encouraging listeners to get to know more about the city’s unique and growing music scene by speaking to special guests about Coventry’s growing influence in UK music.

Local DJ Whitley Ruchea will take over the show from 8pm, providing a guest DJ mix featuring 20 minutes of all new music from Coventry artists including Mugun, Trajixk & Mainz, Sub Zero and Babyblacks.

The show is part of the UK Touchdown Tour, which sees Radio 1Xtra feature the local music scene from 22 different cities over April including Newcastle, Cardiff, Manchester, Brighton, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Belfast and Liverpool.

The show will source tracks using BBC Music Introducing’s network of local shows, which enables them to feature music from undiscovered and emerging artists across the city.

Kaiya Antrobus, Alissa May and JWhale & JimmyG are among the undiscovered artists featuring in tonight’s Coventry show.

DJ Target said: “I’m so excited to take the Touchdown Tour to Coventry.

“At 1Xtra, we’re all about finding and supporting the best new talent wherever they are in the UK and there are some incredible artists coming up in Coventry’s scene right now.

“This tour is an amazing way for us to connect with the region and shine a spotlight on the city. Make sure you tune in tonight”.
