Arrest made after armed police and dog patrol at Coventry station

Felix Nobes 18th Jul, 2019

COMMUTERS startled by a rush hour armed police presence at Coventry station have been told patrols were part of detecting crime or terror threats.

Residents took to Facebook yesterday (July 17) asking for answers after spotting armed officers and police dogs at the station.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said patrols were ‘nothing to worry about’ – and that one arrest was made.

They said: “It was one of our many Project Servator patrols alongside West Midlands Police.

“They involve an advanced range of police resources including armed police, dogs, and plain clothes officers who are specially trained in spotting people with criminal or terrorist intent.

“The patrols are unpredictable so the team can turn up anywhere, at any time to disrupt a wide range of criminal activity.

“You will notice the officers speaking to passengers and staff in the station about Project Servator too, they’ll be encouraging them to keep an eye out for suspicious activity and report anything that doesn’t feel right.

“There was one arrest last night for possession of drugs.”
