COVENTRY charities have received £4,000 in donations from the city’s Amazon team.

Amazon donated £1,000 each to The Myton Hospices, Moat House Community Trust, University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire Charity and a further £1,000 to Allesley Festival, an annual event organised by Allesley Primary School PTA.

Paul Roberts, site leader at Amazon in Coventry, said: “Coventry is home to some fantastic charities doing important work for the people in our city. We’re pleased to lend a helping hand with these donations.”

Myton provides specialist care and support to people living with terminal and life limiting illnesses, and their families. Corporate fundraiser at the charity Chris Willmott, corporate fundraiser at Myton, said: “We’re grateful to receive this donation from Amazon and would like to thank Paul and the team for supporting us. This donation will fund an inpatient bed on our Coventry Inpatient Unit for two days, helping us to continue offering our services to the people who need us, so thank you again.”

Moat House Community Trust, which works to improve the lives of residents in north-east Coventry, will use the donation to help fund the delivering of food parcels to vulnerable residents during lockdown.

And University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire Charity has put the donation towards purchasing devices for patients so they can connect with their loved ones.

The donations were made to the charities as part of the ‘Amazon in the Community’ programme, helping communities around its operating locations across the UK.

Community donations are one of a number of ways in which Amazon is supporting communities across the UK during Covid-19. The online company is also providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast and delivering three quarters of a million healthy breakfasts to families across the country.
