Amaan places last tile at new pool

THE last tile at the bottom of the new 25-metre swimming pool at the refurbished Centre AT7 has been laid by Edgewick Primary School pupil Amaan Ali.

The 11-year-old wrote his name on the tile before putting it in place.

The £7.5million extension to the centre on Bell Green Road also includes a splash pool with water features and racing slides along with a health suite featuring a jacuzzi, sauna and steam room.

It will open in August as part of a 10-year sports strategy that will see the nearby Foleshill baths close and the Coventry Sports Centre bulldozed and moved to a new location.

Paul Breed, chief executive of Coventry Sports Foundation, which manages Centre AT7, said: “It was great for us to be able to invite a youngster from the heart of the community to help us mark this latest milestone.

“Pupils from Edgewick Primary School regularly take part in sporting activities at Centre AT7 and we hope Amaan and his family will enjoy taking advantage of the new facilities.”

The existing buildings are being modified to create meeting rooms and office while a new car park is being created.
