AN 84-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after he was stabbed in his Coventry home on Monday.
It happened around midday in Three Spires Avenue.
The victim remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
A 38-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and assaulting a police officer. She was taken into custody.
Police say incidents of this nature are extremely rare, but added they understood the worry and concern they caused in the community.
Examinations have been carried out at the scene, witnesses spoken to and CCTV footage is being trawled by investigating officers.
