Coventry's Royal Wedding choir will give 'first-class performance' in Windsor

COVENTRY’S Gosp-ability choir is set to give a ‘first-class performance’ ahead of the Royal Wedding as it prepares to sing in the Windsor Guildhall tonight.

Sandra Godley, an acclaimed Coventry gospel singer, has assembled a special choir of 26 individuals who have overcome mental illness or physical disability.

It will perform on BBC’s The One Show tonight ahead of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding on Saturday (May 19).

It will sing its special charity single – Big Love Song – which it will sing live on air tonight.

The choir is made up of 15 talented Coventrians who have been propelled to fame in recent weeks after being selected for the bespoke choir.

Its members travelled to Windsor Guildhall this morning after being waved away from Coventry Cathedral to prepare for their eagerly anticipated performance.

Sandra was inspired by Prince Harry’s ‘Heads Together’ campaign.

The campaign is supported by the Royal Foundation and is a partnership of charities which provide frontline mental health support – while raising awareness and tackling stigma.

The performance also happens to take place during Mental Health Awareness Week (May 14-19).

Sandra said: “I am incredibly proud of every member of the Gosp-Ability choir. They have all shown such grit and determination over the last few weeks.

“I’ve watched them grow in confidence and they really have become a close knit family.

“They’re going to deliver a first-class performance and I can’t wait for the world to see the presentation of our special wedding gift, performed by some very special people for a very special couple.

“Thank you to Coventry City of Culture 2021 for all your invaluable support.“

Councillor George Duggins, leader of Coventry City Council, said: “With the world’s media turning towards the Royal Wedding, it’s fitting that Coventry will be represented as part of the huge build up to the event with the Gosp-Ability choir performing two days before the wedding.

“It’s great to see the amazing local talent that we have in the city coming together in such a fitting way to also celebrate Coventry as the UK City of Culture 2021.”
