A HUGE indoor karting track is on course to open in Coventry in August after a suitable building was found in the city.
Work is now underway to create the £1million track on the Charter Avenue Industrial Estate after TeamSport Indoor Karting secured the 38,000 square foot property.
It is the latest UK venue for TeamSport which already operates 25 tracks across the country.
Promoters say it will feature a 580 metre multi-level circuit for up to 16 karters at one time and will also offer meeting facilities for corporate clients and a kids’ party room.
Jonathan Moore, director of Holt Commercial, who found the building on Curriers Close, said: “We are very pleased to have found a new occupier for the building and this will bring something new and exciting to Coventry.
“The development work is now underway and it’s great to see that TeamSport are on course to open in August.
“I know this will appeal to people looking for an activity that’s a bit different and I can see huge potential for the corporate market too.”
TeamSport have also said the venue will feature a licensed bar serving a range of food and drinks, a track side spectator gallery and provide free car parking.
It is anticipated that around 40 jobs will be created by the new venue.
Dave Rich, projects director for TeamSport Indoor Karting, said: “The use of premises for indoor karting facilities requires large amounts of open plan floor space, a limited number of internal columns and high ceilings – industrial warehouse units therefore provide the optimum space.
“After many months of searching for a suitable unit in the Coventry area, TeamSport are pleased to have found the site at Curriers Close which is particularly suitable given the vibrant mix of commercial, retail and leisure uses in the area.”
