Sidney Barnes had a career as a songwriter, producer and performer back in the 60’s & 70’s the golden years of American Black Soul Music. Signed to Motown as a performer and then staff writer, as well as Chess Records and other small independent labels Barnes was credited as a writer with The Jackson, The Supremes, George Clinton Parliament Funk, Bo Diddley, The Flirtations to name a few.
As a performer, Sidney Barnes was the lead singer alongside internationally acclaimed vocalist Minnie Rippleton in the psychedelic rock project band “Rotary Connection” which Elton John still claims to be one of the main influences on his earlier works to this day.
There is so much to Barnes’s career, but it was the UK Northern Soul scene that he became a much-loved and respected artist. Northern Soul was an underground dance movement that originated in the north of the county in the 1970s based on rare American Black soul music.
Joining forces with the immensely talented musicians of The Signatures, Northern Soul Live and special guest vocalist Stefan Taylor, the “Sidney Barnes Weekender” guarantees an extraordinary line-up of soulful performances and unforgettable musical moments.
