Coventry Blitz victims remembered on 83rd anniversary

Coventry Editorial 14th Nov, 2023   0

EVERYONE at the Coventry Observer joins with the rest of the city in remembering the victims of the Coventry Blitz on the 83rd anniversary of that fateful day.

On November 14, 1940, at least 554 people died during the bombing raids over Coventry, while around 1,000 more were injured.

The original cathedral Church of St. Michael was turned into a ruined shell of a building.

In the aftermath of the Blitz, Provost Howard’s response to the Cathedral’s destruction was one of immediate forgiveness.

Today, Coventry and the Cathedral Ruins is recognised as a beacon of peace and reconciliation throughout the world.

A special vigil will be held at 6pm tonight at the Cathedral Ruins.

The service will remember the lives lost and devastation caused by the event and will give Coventrians the opportunity to pray for continued reconciliation and peace.
