Residents in WCS Care Homes Have More Opportunities to Get ‘Out & About’

Coventry Editorial 9th Aug, 2018   0

People living at WCS Care homes across Warwickshire now have even more opportunities to explore local attractions and places of interest, thanks to the success of its ‘Out & About’ service.

Complete with an onboard conductor, ‘Out & About’ gives residents from the Kenilworth-based charity’s homes for older people access to a host of carefully researched destinations including museums, music and sports events, and art galleries, as well as markets, pubs and farms.

Created and run by Oomph!, the service launched in WCS Care homes a year ago, with each home running two excursions per month, in addition to the usual visits to places linked to residents’ own personal interests.

Twelve months on and its proven such a hit that WCS Care is doubling outings for residents to around four per month per home from this summer.

Christine Asbury, WCS Care’s Chief Executive, said: ‘We’re delighted to be able to offer more opportunities for people to visit attractions for the first time or to go back to locations they’re really fond of.

‘Last year, people living in a WCS Care home filled over 2,200 seats on the Out & About Service with museums, garden centres, country parks, and farms among their favourite places to visit – and we’re excited to hear about the destinations people want to go to in the next 12 months.

‘It’s part of our ambition to make every day well lived for residents while pushing the boundaries for creativity and innovation in care.’
