Hi: 15° Lo:6° 7 day

Having a nice home is one of the most important contributing factors towards a happy and comfortable life. Home is where the heart is, the old saying goes.
But having a nice home isn’t quite enough these days. It has to be stylish as well to really tick all the boxes. People want to impress others that come into their houses – people that invariably have design ideas and interests of their own. Interior decoration is now such a ubiquitous interest that it was recently reported that Jeremy Clarkson had expressed a desire to present a show about interior design with Will Young!
Despite the rising popular interest in interior design, not everyone can afford to completely redecorate their home in one go, and the trendiest items can inevitably be expensive. Even the purchase of a (tastefully) tarnished piece of industrial furniture can drain a bank balance of a significant amount of money.
However, a six-figure bank balance isn’t a prerequisite for a style update – your home can be tastefully and cheaply restyled if you keep a discerning eye on the small items that can make a big difference.
So here are a couple of items that can quickly rejuvenate your home and turn a nice space into an impressive and stylish space, quickly and affordably.
Carpets are lovely and comfortable – especially those springy new carpets. However, there’s something a bit stuffy and traditional about how a carpet looks, and now more homeowners – and designers – are choosing to furnish their floors with rugs instead.
There’s good reason for this shift in style. There’s something both stylish and comfortable about combining a slick and appealing surface, like wooden floorboards, with a big warm rug.
Rugs are also relatively cheap and easy to add to a home – they can make a big difference with minimal effort and expense. There are some terrific budget rugs on sale at specialist retailers like the Rug Store that could easily do the trick for a surprisingly low amount of money.
Projectors are perfect for a cinema-like experience in the home without the ostentation of a massive and clunky TV set sitting ominously at one end of the room.
Having a bare wall space is key – a projector obviously needs to have a space to project onto – but once this is arranged the effect is magnificent. It’s just like having a cinema in the home but without people brushing past to go to the toilet, and charging you £10 for nachos.
Projectors may have been expensive in the past but not anymore. It’s now possible to pick up a good one for less than a thousand pounds – even less if you look on eBay for a bargain.
So if you want to make your home a bit more stylish, then there are some quick, cheap and easy ways to do it. Purchasing one of the items above is a good start. Happy redecorating!
