COVENTRY University moved up seven places in a standards league table.

The 2014 Complete University Guide, published this week, ranked the university 58th in the country and among the top six for new universities.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Madeleine Atkins said: "We are delighted our ongoing improvements in performance are reflected once again in a rise in the national league tables.

"Our staff work extremely hard to ensure students reach their full academic potential and find a good job when they graduate."

Warwick University - a regular top ten university in various league tables - dropped two places to eighth behind University College London and St Andrews.

Cambridge and Oxford were ranked number one and two, respectively.
