Giant tulips welcome spring to Broadgate

GIANT tulips have welcomed spring to the city centre.

This week's sunny weather was met with thirty of the illuminated flowers in Broadgate.

They were planted in the square for a week on Sunday after an arts company provided the wacky structures. They will be lit day and night with extra seating provided under the petals for city shoppers.

Visitors have already been seen checking out the tulips, with many taking to social media websites to give the idea - and the city council - their approval.

Arts firm Jigantics, run by James Cochrane, provided the flowers. The company ploughs many of the company’s funds back into running community projects based around the creative arts internationally, including projects in Cambodia and Zambia.

Leader of the council John Mutton said: "I think the flowers really catch the eye and they will bring some spring-time cheer and vibrancy to the city centre following the colder, damper weather of the last few months.

"They certainly add some colour and warmth and will hopefully capture the imagination of visitors into Broadgate."
