THE SKY Blues are still desparate to keep hold of manager Mark Robins despite allowing him to speak with Huddersfield about their manager's vacancy.
The 43-year-old is only five months into a three-year contract but asked the club's board if he could speak with the Championship club who have made Robins their number one target.
The Observer understands an initial approach was made on Monday evening which was subsequently rejected.
But it seems Huddersfield have agreed a compensation deal with the Sky Blues and Robins is expected to discuss terms today (Wednesday) before being announced tomorrow.
“We have had more than one club interested in Mark in the last few weeks and we have made every effort to ensure he stays with us,” said Sky Blues chief executive Tim Fisher.
“We talked to him at length today and he met the owner. Once we had done everything we could and it was obvious that he was still interested in talking to Huddersfield, we had no choice other than to let him do so.
“We are just hoping that when he weighs up his options and opportunities, he will see the great progress to date and the support he has from fans and management alike, coupled with the potential in Coventry, and decide to stay.”
Robins, who was also heavily linked to the Blackpool vacancy, has been earning a reputation as one of the country's top up-and-coming managers in recent weeks.
His success since taking over at the Ricoh Arena in September last year has been well documented.
An impressive unbeaten run throughout December saw him named as the League One Manager of the Month and transformed the Sky Blues from relegation candidates to play-off hopefuls.
The club now sit just four points off the top six and have also enjoyed a run to the Area Final of the Johnstone Paint Trophy.
