ONE of the city's most popular libraries has celebrated its 60th anniversary.
Plans to replace the busy Evening Centre on the corner of Prior Deram Walk and Queen Margaret’s Road were approved by the Coventry Corporation's libraries and museums committee back in November 1948.
But building work was delayed due to a shortage of materials during Second World War and it was five years before it was officially opened.
Fast forward through six decades at the library is as popular as ever with hundreds of people enjoying a celebration on Saturday.
Coun David Kershaw cut a birthday cake to mark the occasion which also included a day of activities and a photographic display of the library over the years.
"From 1953 to 2013, Canley Library has been a fantastic place for people to visit, learn and enjoy so here’s to the next 60 years," he said.
