HUNDREDS of schoolchildren in Coventry were today (Wednesday) attempting to set a new world record breaking for the most youngsters signing and singing simultaneously.
Pupils from 20 schools were due to join thousands across the country to sing a song written by Garry Slack, author of the award-winning Sign with Olli books, as part of the record attempt organised by charity SignHealth.
Last year 114,277 children took part, smashing the previous record was 94,489. And this year charity chiefs are aiming to get 175,000 youngsters involved.
Dawn Neale, music co-ordinator at Coundon Primary, said: “The children really enjoyed taking part in last year’s sign2sing event so we thought it would be a good idea to take part again and help to break the world record for the most people signing and singing a song at the same time."
The money raised from sign2sing will be used to continue the charity’s work helping to improve the mental and physical health and well-being of deaf people, including deaf children.
