Police 'find cocaine' hidden inside children's chocolate egg

POLICE officers were surprised to find what is believed to be cocaine hidden inside a children's chocolate egg after searching a stolen car.

White powder was uncovered from a plastic capsule inside the chocolate which would usually contain a children's toy.

The driver of the Vauxhall Astra sped away from police after swerving across the road in the Stoke area of Coventry in the early hours of this morning (Friday).

Officers had spotted the erratic driving, but after pulling him over in Blackberry Lane he smacked a kerb and drove off.

The car was later abandoned in Watersmeet Road before officers arrested a 23-year-old city man running from the scene.

He is being questioned on suspicion of burglary, driving while disqualified and failing to stop for police.

Officers have sent the white powder found in the car off for forensic analysis.

Inquiries linked the vehicle to a burglary at an address in Torcross Avenue, Stoke, on January 19, where a 60-plate Astra was stolen.

Coventry CID DS Andrew Houston, said: "The suspect ditched the car after a short pursuit and was swiftly arrested.

"Officers searched the vehicle and found what's believed to be drugs hidden in a capsule - the type found inside a popular children's chocolate egg!

"A potentially dangerous situation - where a car was being driven erratically, mounting pavements, and at high speed - was quickly brought under control by the officers involved."
