A FEATURE film is set to be made in Coventry - but only if £30,000 can be raised by movie lovers.
Filming for coming-of-age tale Rudy, set in both the city, Nuneaton and rural Warwickshire, will start in March.
But instead of going down the usual route of seeking big investors' support, producers have 'crowd-sourced' the cash by asking for as little as £7 in an ambitious bid to raise cash.
Those who sponsor the film will get something in return, ranging from a thank you on its website for a small donation to an executive producer role in return for a £5,000 donation.
Acclaimed director Shona Auerbach, whose previous film Dear Frankie had a budget of £2.5million and featured Gerard Butler, is on board for the project.
Local teams including writer Diane Allton, city producer Rachel Carter, Richard Wood from Coventry and Warwickshire Filmmakers' Network and final year students from Coventry University's Media Production degree course are also involved.
The film follows Rudy, a 15-year-old girl whose life in rural Warwickshire is turned upside down after meeting Luke, a skateboarder from Coventry.
The story focuses on how Rudy's relationship with her widowed father is changed by the developing relationship between Rudy and Luke.
Producer Graeme Dunn said: "We need all the sponsorship we can get.
"Everyone who donates will get a perk, from a signed cast photograph up to an executive producer or company screen credit.
"It is a great advertising opportunity for small businesses.
"We also hope that people will get pleasure from the fact that they sponsored a local film project, that they will be able to see in their local cinema.
"Every penny really does count, and we would love the people and businesses of Coventry and Warwickshire to support us with this."
