A PROTEST against council cuts will be held in Coventry next month.

Trade Unions claim government cuts to council budgets are unjustifed and are spearheading a campaign against the move.

They are holding a rally in the city centre at 10.30am on Saturday, February 23.

Last month council finance chiefs announced estimated cuts of over £60million over the next three years as they battle to balance its budget.

Richard Harty, chair of of the Coventry Cuts Campaign, said: "It is one of the most important issues affecting all people in Coventry since the founding of local government.

"If we do nothing about it we will have not have council services in the future. Society suffers when good people do nothing.

"The people of Coventry did not cause the financial crisis so why should we suffer as a consequence.

"We want the people of Coventry to join us in our campaign so that the vulnerable don’t suffer and together we can grow our local economy and create a future for Coventry."

The group is planning to hand out leaflets in the city centre in a bid to raise awareness of the protest.
