HS2 is not in Britain’s national interest - that is according to West Midlands MEP Mike Nattrass.

He has attacked the government's commitment to the controversial rail line in its 46-page mid-term review.

UKIP's transport spokesman said: "Last year the Government’s own Major Projects Authority expressed concerns about HS2.

"It would be an environmental catastrophe and all in a bid to save mere minutes on train journey times between Birmingham and London."
