A PETITION has called for greater road safety measures to be taken in the city.

Over 500 people have put their name to concerns over roads in the Whoberley area.

Streets listed include Greendale Avenue, Brookside Avenue, Wildcroft Road and Glendower Avenue, with ideas raised including lowering speed limits on the 30mph stretches.

The local councillor who helped launch the petition said residents had warned of several accidents and near misses in recent times.

Coun Bally Singh handed it to council bosses, who will draw up a report and discuss whether to act on upon residents' concerns.

He said: "Hundreds of local people have signed the petition calling for improved road safety in these normally quiet residential streets.

"Speeding cars have been highlighted as the main culprit of recent accidents and near misses, so any measures that are put in place to reduce speeding will be widely welcomed by the community."
