JAGUAR'S E-Type is to appear on a special collection of stamps to celebrate the best of British Automotive legends.

The iconic sports car features alongside the Merchant Navy, some of the finest Locomotives of Northern Ireland and a special set of London Underground images to mark the 150th anniversary of the first underground railway in the world.

Jane Austen will also be celebrated in the stamps due to go into circulation next week as 2013 marks the bicentenary of the publication of Pride and Prejudice, one of the most popular British novels of all time.

Andrew Hammond, managing director of Royal Mail Stamps, said: "We had a fantastic programme last year across a variety of different topics and capped it off with our hugely popular Gold Medal stamps.

"That’s a unique act to follow but the 2013 programme explores some of Britain’s greatest achievements from the world of literature, industry, sport and modern society in a schedule that certainly contains something for everyone."
