POLICE are asking New Year's Eve revellers to help them trace a man who attacked and sexually assaulted a woman near the city centre.

The 41-year-old victim was grabbed as she walked by an embankment near to the roundabout at Gosford Street and Sky Blue Way in the early hours of New Year's Day.

The offender, who is described as an Asian man, aged btween 30-50 and around 5’7, sexually assaulted the woman before leaving the scene.

Police are now appealing for anyone who may have seen the man or a silver/grey saloon vehicle in the area to come forward.

Officers have forensically examined the area just outside the city centre and are studying CCTV footage from the area as part the ongoing investigation.

"We believe this to be an isolated incident and we are anxious to hear from anyone who may have seen this vehicle to contact us or anyone who may have information about the attack to come forward," said DCI Dean Young from Coventry’s Public Protection Unit (PPU)

"We believe there will have been people around the outskirts of the city centre who were on their way home after celebrating the new year."

Anyone with information should contact Coventry PPU on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
