FORMER Coventry City star Peter Ndlovu has been seriously injured in a car crash which claimed the life of his brother.

The 39-year-old suffered a broken leg, broken ribs, internal injuries and head injuries in the crash but is said to be 'conscious and communicating'.

The Sky Blues said they were saddened to hear of the news.

Ndlovu's 42-year-old brother Adam - also a former professional footballer and international - died in the crash in their native Zimbabwe.

A female passenger is also thought to have died in the smash, near Victoria Falls.

Online images show a mangled BMX X5 which had hit a tree after a tyre apparently burst en route to a friendly match.

Peter's six-year stint with the Sky Blues saw him net 39 goals in 176 games. In a message on its website, the club said Ndlovu had claimed iconic status during the spell.

And on its twitter page City added: "All our thoughts and wishes go out to former Sky Blue Peter Ndlovu and his family. Keep strong Nuddy."

FA Cup winning boss John Sillett had spotted Ndlovu during a pre-season tour before his successor Terry Butcher snapped him up in 1991.

He also starred for Birmingham City and Sheffield United during a long career in England and reached a century of caps for his country.
