BLAZE coach Paul Thompson has wished Canadian forward Gerome Giudice all the best for the future after he was released from the Elite League club.

The 23-year-old has signed a two-year deal with Italian side Pontebba after being told by Thompson his chances of first team action could be limited at the Skydome.

The likeable character posted 15 points (eight goals and seven assists) in 26 games for Blaze this season but has opted to move to Italy's Serie A.

“Gerome came to see me and asked to be released as he has been offered a two-year deal in Italy,” revealed Thompson.

“With Mike Bayrack fit again we have a spare import and I told Gerome there were going to be some games in which he may not feature in.

“He is 23 and with the two years back in Italy he felt it was something he could not turn down.

“Gerome is a great kid, he was very popular with the fans and in the dressing room. He enjoyed his time here and it was an emotional decision for him.

“But it is a great opportunity and we have never been a club to stand in anyone’s way. We wish him all the very best for the future.”

Blaze are next in action when they on Nottingham Panthers at the Skydome in the League on Sunday December 23 (5.15pm face-off).
