THE famous African Children’s Choir will sing at Coventry's Central Hall Methodist Church.
Their show on Friday, December 14 is part of a 23-date tour of the UK and comes on their back of their performance at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations when they featured on Sing, the celebratory single written by Take That's Gary Barlow.
The choir is made up of 17 children from Uganda, all of whom have lost one or both parents to poverty or disease.
Since 1984 it has been travelling the world raising awareness and funds towards to the development of programmes that help educate some of the continent’s most in-need children although every year there is a new line up.
Their concerts include well-loved children's songs, popular gospel tunes and lively spirituals.
Through their songs and dances, they bring Africa alive, said founder Ray Barnett "The children in the choir represent millions of children in Africa; they are bright, articulate and motivated to realise their potential," he added.
"We believe they can make a difference and we believe when audiences see Africa through their eyes they will want to give these children every opportunity to succeed and impact their countries."
The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are on sale from the Methodist Hall on Warwick Lane by calling 024 7625 2411.
A second show by the choir in the area takes place at Harris School in Rugby on Sunday, December 9 at 7pm. Tickets are on sale from Rugby Christian Fellowship on Cambridge Street or by calling 01788 544608 or 07738 362899.
Additional donations will be accepted on both nights or can be made through the Friends of the Choir. Details can be found online at www.africanchildrenschoir.org.uk.
