Heart professor speaks at Cardiomyopathy Association conference

WORLD leading cardiomyopathy expert Professor William McKenna from London’s Heart Hospital is to give a talk at the Holiday Inn in Walsgrave on Saturday, November 24.

He will be speaking at a cardiomyopathy information day held by the Cardiomyopathy Association, a charity that provides information and support to affected families.

The heart muscle disease affects people of all ages including babies and is the main medical cause of sudden death in the under 35s.

But it can usually be successfully treated with most affected people able to live a long and full life.

Around one in 500 people are believed to have cardiomyopathy, but many will have it mildly and some will not know they have it so the charity campaigns for wider availability of heart checks and genetic testing to find those at risk and save lives.

The event is free to attend but anyone wanting to have lunch is asked to pay a £10 contribution towards the cost. To book a place call 01494 791224.
