Land Registry staff raise £2,000 in huge charity effort

WORKERS at Coventry Land Registry celebrated its 150th birthday by raising over £2,000 for charity.

A number of local charities benefited from the staff's exploits, including Three Spires School - a Coundon site dedicated to helping children with learning difficulties.

The fund-raising started in June with a band of dedicated runners taking part in the Two Castles run between Warwick and Kenilworth Castle. The Tile Hill-based organisation raised £1,208 for the school by taking part in the 10km run.

Other activities saw £200 raised for Warwickshire Air Ambulance through a lunchtime quiz, £150 donated to Birmingham Children's Hospital - also in its 150th year - and 150 toiletry bags filled for Coventry Cyrenians, which helps the homeless.

A charity raffle saw £100 given to the Dogs Trust and a further £355 raised through a MacMillan Coffee Morning.

To celebrate the organisation's 150th birthday, staff even took part in a fete with manager being thrown in the stocks.

Roy Cruse, from the Coventry office, said: "Colleagues have been really keen to get involved in celebrating our 150th anniversary, while at the same time ensuring we are doing something worthwhile for the local community.

"We are so pleased that we’ve managed to raise over £2,000 for charity."

Land Registry’s doors first opened to the public on October 15, 1862 in London with the purpose of registering ownership of land and property in England and Wales.
