Google Street View helps snare suspected caravan thief

A COVENTRY man has been arrested after a police investigation into the theft of a caravan was reopened when a suspect was discovered on Google.

The white Abbey Adventura caravan was taken from the driveway of a house on Caudwell Road, Linton in Derbyshire on June 5, 2009.

Despite a forensic examination of the wheel clamps that had been securing the caravan the offender was never traced and the vehicle was never recovered.

But almost a year later the case was re-opened when the caravan owner looked on Google Street View and saw a 4x4 vehicle was parked on his driveway by his caravan and a man was standing next to it.

And after extensive inquiries by Derbyshire Constabulary, West Midlands Police and Warwickshire Police an arrest was made last week.

The 49-year-old has been questioned and released on bail while inquiries continue.
