Jill Thompson and Jane Arnold trawl through the Herbert archives in preparation of the city centre venue's upcoming history experience.
VISITORS to the Herbert Art Gallery will get a trip back in time at a day focused on the history of the area.
The Great British Story - Ancestors in the Archives takes place on Saturday with performances, film screenings, talks and trails.
History experts will be on hand to help visitors discover the meaning of their surname or place name.
Morris dancers will be performing while weaver taster sessions will be held for anyone who wants to give it a try.
There will also be talks by TVs Nick Barrett and historian Professor Roland Rotherham, while Shakespeare's Birthplace Trust will be presenting snippets of the life and work of Shakespeare from a local angle.
The event complements a new television series for BBC Two, The Great British Story: A People's History.
