A FREE exhibition being launched in the Herbert Art Gallery to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Coventry City Football Club’s 1987 FA Cup win will include a special set of photos of the cup winning team.

From Highfield Road to Wembley Way features newly-commissioned work by Coventry University senior lecturer Paul Smith, and uses pictures, film and fan memorabilia to guide visitors through a brief history of the club and revisit the memorable final of May 16th at Wembley Stadium.

Attendees will be transported back to 1987 with a chance to watch the match with live commentary and the public are also being invited to share and record their own memories of the occasion in a dedicated ‘Memories’ section.

As part of the exhibition, Mr Smith – who directs the internationally-acclaimed Photography BA (Hons) course at the University – has re-photographed the entire FA Cup winning team to pay homage to the players and reflect on the modern game of football.

"We’re delighted to be involved with celebrating this occasion through such a unique exhibition.

"Even 25 years on Coventrians are still proud of the ’87 FA Cup victory, so it’s a pleasure for the University to be helping the community, and in particular Coventry City fans, relive those happy memories through the medium of photography."

The launch evening is on Thursday 5th April at 7pm–9.30pm, and the exhibition will run until Sunday 1st July. Admission is free of charge to both, though places must be booked for the launch event via theherbert.org.
