AN APPEAL to find £20,000 will give people the chance to have their names recorded on glass panels inside Coventry Cathedral.
The site's Millennium Chapel already has 800 names engraved on glass panels and now bosses are offering a space on the final 20 places.
They said the appeal was launched to coincide with Diamond Jubilee and the cathedral's 50th anniversary - and are charging £2,012 for a spot on the wall.
Names already there include Sir Frank Whittle, Marlon Devonish, four FA Cup winners and even Lady Godiva.
The original Chapel appeal ran from 1999 to 2007 and has been resurrected to help the cathedral's bid to raise £120,000.
Those who donated money to the previous appeal chose to remember a relative or loved one, while others decided to put their own name on the screen as a lasting memorial. The space could even be dedicated to a company.
Michael Mogan, director of the Millennium Screen project, said he had a very personal connection to the Millennium Chapel.
"Not only am I responsible for raising the funds to finish the project, but as a proud Coventrian, I also saw this as an ideal opportunity to put my Father’s name on the glass.
"I’ve paid for my wife and me to be added and now, after the birth of my twin daughters earlier this year, I am having their names put on as well.
"Others who have already paid to have a name etched onto the glass have commented how much they liked the fact that they are interspersed with designs on the screens as it feels more like a work of art than a memorial."
The Dean of Coventry, the Very Revd. John Irvine added: "It would be a wonderful achievement to get the final 20 names engraved on the glass screens on the Millennium Chapel, especially in our 50th anniversary year.
"The Chapel has become a very popular destination since it was built and provides pilgrims with a quiet spot for prayer, contemplation and thought. It is indeed a jewel within our Cathedral crown."
Anyone wanting to apply for one of the 20 spaces available on the Millennium Chapel glass screens should contact Michael Mogan on 07796 687 762.
