Royal band play at War Memorial Park concert

01/06 Updated: 01/06 11:33

SHIRLEY Pipe Band will play at War Memorial Park Sunday, June 10.

It is the second free concert in Coventry City Council's Summer Bands in the Park programme.

The band was formed in 1962 when it evolved from an established Scout Drum and Bugle Band to specialise in the Great Highland Bagpipe.

Their repertoire includes around 60 tunes with a wide selection of marches complemented by airs, strathspeys and reels. These are mainly traditional tunes from Scotland and the rest of Great Britain, supplemented by some of their own compositions.

They offer a wonderful spectacle, not only with the music, but also the traditional Scottish uniform - a central part of which is the Hunting Stewart tartan, worn by permission of Her Majesty the Queen.

The free concert starts at 2.30pm.

The full Summer Bands in the Park programme is online at www.coventry.gov.uk/events.
