SNOOKER fan Brian Wright made it a World Championships he will never forget after proposing to his girlfriend in front of over 1,000 spectators.
The 42-year-old, from Holbrooks, is a regular at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield and attends the biggest event on the snooker calendar every year.
Girlfriend Lisa Dunks thought her partner was being given an award for his 20th visit to the World Championships when he was invited down on to the stage by popular MC Rob Walker.
But she got the shock of her life when Brian got down on one knee and popped the question in one of his famous Coventry City jerseys.
The former Sydney Stringer pupil pulled the ring from his pocket and said in front of a packed arena: “Lisa, you’re my soulmate. I love you with all my heart. Will you marry me?”
A stunned Lisa was helped down on to the stage and simply replied: “I do.”
Brian is a big football fan too and has not missed an England international since 1988, taking his Shrek toy dressed as striker Wayne Rooney to each match.
Last year the Observer revealed how Brian was shunned by Rooney after being invited down to London by the FA in recognition of his support to watch a training session, but his green lucky charm did not go down well with the Manchester United star.
