Hiralal Chauhan's body was found by a dog walker in Wainbody Wood in February.
A BODY found in secluded city woodland has been identified as that of Radford man Hiralal Chauhan.
He had been missing from his home in Bowness Close since May 2009. His next of kin have been informed.
Police today confirmed the remains were that of the 58-year-old and are treating the death as unexplained.
A member of the public found the body in February while walking their dog in Wainbody Wood, off Stoneleigh Road in Gibbet Hill.
The area was cordoned off while forensic experts and an archaeologist examined the scene before tests to establish the identity of the body could be carried out.
Detective Inspector Stuart Bell said: "Mr Chauhan was reported missing three years ago. Despite extensive inquiries, he was never found.
"At this time, Mr Chauhan's death is being treated as unexplained and if we are to fully understand how he died we need the help of local people.
"Many, if not all of Hiralal's friends and associates were spoken to at the time of his disappearance in 2009. If those people have further information which may assist this new stage of the investigation I would urge them to get in touch.
"I would also ask that anybody who has not yet spoken to officers but may have information which could assist the inquiry team to establish how he died, or why he was in the woods, to contact us. "
