AN EVIL city man who murdered his partner and cut up the body has been jailed for life.
Karl Burman, 24, was found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court today (Thursday) of the murder of Shauna Lee, whose body has never been found. He had confessed numerous times to the killing but denied murder.
Burman, of Kirby Close, Foleshill, was sentenced to life in prison with a tariff of 19 years for the murder, which happened at some point between November 2010 and May 2011.
Forensic tests carried out in Ms Lee's flat showed the 36-year-old had been hit with a blunt object, while heavy blood staining was found beneath the carpet and on the wall which matched her DNA.
Burman specifically bought a set of large tree loppers to chop up the body before putting the parts into wheelie bins.
Family and friends of Ms Lee, of Meriden Street, had reported her missing before Burman contacted the police and confessed.
Her family released a statement after the verdict. They said: "Shauna was a loving, caring and kind sister.
"Shauna loved her children very much although she wasn't always well enough to look after them.
"She was also a fun loving and bubbly person and would always think of others first and do anything for anybody.
"Not knowing what happened to Shauna or being able to say goodbye and lay her to rest has added to the painful torment and caused a lot of distress to her friends and family as we have not been able to grieve for Shauna.
"We are pleased that the person responsible for Shauna's death has been found guilty and will hold her memorial service for her. We would like to thank the police investigation team, prosecution and the jury."
Sarah Hammond, prosecutor from West Midlands Crown Prosecution Service, said: "Today, an evil and dangerous man has been found guilty of the horrific murder of Shauna Lee."
Police added Burman had disposed of the body 'in the most horrific way' and they were delighted with the verdict.
DS Caroline Corfield said: "He denied her family the opportunity to have a funeral or grieve for her in the usual way at the time of her death.
"Until now they have been searching for an answer as to what happened to Shauna.
"Hopefully they can now try to come to terms with what did happen with the knowledge that justice has been served and Karl Burman will serve a long sentence for this dreadful crime."
